Pre-school gymnastics, run by Jacqui Upton and her dedicated team, comprises a number of different classes designed to introduce children to gymnastics. The emphasis is on fun and classes are offered for babies from 6 weeks to young children up to 5 years of age.

Once children reach the age of 5 they can move into recreational gymnastics classes. The structure of recreational gymnastics is that the young gymnast works through a series of badges for attainment of certain skills from Badge 7 through to Badge 1. Those showing potential for more complex gymnastics may move up to "grades" classes where they move through four attainment levels from Grade 4 through to Grade 1 by way of successfully achieving the required score in Grades Competitions. These take place twice a year and more information is available here.

In addition, grades gymnasts who show potential for the higher levels of the sport may be invited to join the Competition Groups run by head coach Rachel Levick, where they have the opportunity to develop their gymnastics to the highest levels of the sport, which may include selection for regional, national or even international squads.

But this long road to potential success can begin in pre-school where classes are broken down by age with the following fun names:

Activities

Baby Gym
babies of 8 weeks to crawling

40 minute session for babies and their parents during which we show you how to exercise your baby to music, maintaining their flexibility and muscle tone, and use some gym apparatus for hanging, rolling and bouncing

Slow Worms
crawling babies to toddlers of 2

45 minute session which begins with action songs followed by free play on specialised gym apparatus where children learn how to balance on planks and beams, swing on rings, crawl through tunnels and lots more under the supervision of qualified coaches

Bunny Hoppers

toddlers from 2 to 3¼

45 minute session to encourage parent and child to work together in a structured and progressive way with the emphasis on FUN, during which children will learn how to jump, balance, swing and roll using the floor and gym apparatus. Manipulative skills are improved using beanbags, hoops etc and music is introduced to encourage the child's rhythm

Top Cats

children from 3¼ to 5

45 minute session during which children learn how to work independently, building their confidence in a safe environment, supervised by full qualified coaches. Circuits are set up to develop their gymnastics skills, which helps to enhance their levels of fitness in preparation for recreational gymnastics classes once they start school

Flying Foxes

Pre-School Trampolining
Age 3+

30 minute session on the floor level trampoline to learn basic skills and work towards badges. Fun and games are used to provide a most enjoyable class.

Before they are allowed to attend classes all children must be insured. We have group cover for this purpose and the annual insurance fee is £8.00 per child and covers the period from the 1st October to the 31st September each year.

Class fees are detailed below and are payable half-termly in advance. Prices are reduced if you enrol a child into more than one class per week. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer any refunds once a class has been booked, whatever the reason for cancellation.

While all classes are open to non-members, please remember that we are an educational charity and that you can become a member for a small annual subscription as explained here. Prices for members recognise their longer-term commitment to gymnastics and their club.

If you would like to enrol for one of our pre-school classes, or would like more information, please contact Erin Rockley on reception during normal working hours, write to us at the address on the home page or e-mail us.
