about 2012 |
|
Following London’s successful bid to host the 2012 Olympics, the Wiltshire School of Gymnastics decided to bid to host an international team for their final pre-games training camp. This means the club and the local area would host top world class athletes giving them full access to our facility for their final practice and acclimatisation prior to the Olympic Games. It is felt that this would be a very exciting opportunity for the club, the local community and local businesses. A team was set-up to work on this bid and in March 2008, we received the fantastic news from the British Olympic Committee that our bid has been successful. This means we will feature in the brochure published and distributed internationally by The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) (responsible for the preparation and staging of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games) from which teams will select their final training destination before the 2012 Olympic games. Now that we have been successful there is a lot to do over the next 4 years in the run-up to the Games and we will continually update these pages as that work progresses to keep club members, the local community and businesses as well as interested international teams informed of how they can contact us to take advantage of what is one of the best equipped gymnastics facilities in the UK. |
